The Margin of Error

The Margin of Error is based on two different archival materials, both depicting Sarek National Park in northern Sweden. The images are by Emanuel Cederqvist and Axel Hamberg. Sarek as a landscape has not changed significantly since the Ice Age, therefore the shift in time between the different photographs is almost invisible. Cederqvist is interested in how the camera was previously viewed as an instrument, a way to measure, understand, and take control of nature, which contrasts with his own experience of the place and nature itself, which for him offers an opportunity to relinquish control.
