Fotoboksfestival i miniformat på Goethe-institutet

Centrum för fotografi, Fotoförfattarna och Goetheinstitutet hälsar er välkomna till en endags-festival där vi hoppas skapa nya kontaktytor för fotografer och förläggare, främja samarbeten och öka kunskapen kring Tysklands och Sveriges fotobokskultur. 

Fotoboksfestival i miniformat på Goethe-Institutet

Dagens program:

13.00: Fotoboksmarknaden öppnar. Kom för att upptäcka böcker och mingla!
 
13:30 – 13:40: Simon Berg från Fotoförfattarna – Svenska Fotografers Förbund och Kristyna Müller från Centrum för fotografi hälsar välkomna.
 
13:45-14:15 – Presentation: Alberto Rossi om Take Ten
Alberto introducerar Take Ten Press, ett konstnärsdrivet förlag, en plattform för bildbaserade publikationer och ett nomadiskt bibliotek. Biblioteket, som består av nittio böcker visas på Goethe hela dagen.
 
14:25 – 15:10 Panelsamtal: Är fotoboksvärlden en bubbla och är det dåligt?
Panelsamtal om fotoboken och dess internationella Community. Fotoböcker är en betydande del av fotografiscenen, och ofta har de ett angeläget innehåll och håller en hög konstnärlig kvalitet.
Men varför når de inte utanför scenen? Finns en önskan om att ha det annorlunda? Vad för strategier finns för att nå utanför bubblan?

15:20 – 16:00 Presentation: Thomas Gust och Ana Druga om Buchkunst Berlin  
Tomas Gust och Ana Druga har tillsammans startat galleriet, agenturen och plattformen Buchkunst Berlin i som funnits sedan 2021. Hör dom berätta om varför de startade, om hur det är att driva galleriet till vardags och om sin vision för Buchkunst Berlin.

16:10 – 16.40 Intervju: Möt fotografen Julian Slagman
Fotografen Julian Slagman berättar om sin syn på fotografi och sitt personliga projekt ”Looking at my brother” i ett samtal med Simon Berg. Projektet har blivit en bok (Disco Bay, 2024) och en utställning. Boken nominerades till Svenska Fotobokspriset 2025.
 
17:00 – 18:30 PECHA KUCHA
Pecha Kucha är en klassisk presentationsform och ett perfekt sätt att introduceras till andras fotobaserade arbeten på ett snabbt, roligt och inspirerande vis. Tjugo fotografer/
konstnärer/förläggare kommer att delta och visa 20 bilder på 20 sekunder vardera.
 
18:30 – 20:00 MINGEL / SLUT
Välkommen till dagens viktigaste del av programmet: minglet! Ta dig något att dricka i vår Goethe-bar och ta chansen att prata med alla som har deltagit i dagens program.

Calin Cruse (DE) förläggare, formgivare och föreläsare som grundade och driver fotomagasinet, plattformen och bokförlaget dienacht.

Thomas Gust (DE) curator, fotoboksmakare och fotograf som driver galleriet Buchkunst i Berlin tillsammans med Ana Druga.

Ana Druga (DE) förläggare, formgivare och AD som driver galleriet Buchkonst i Berlin tillsammans med Tomas Gust.

Julian Slagman (DE/SE) fotograf som nominerades till årets fotobokspris för sin bok ”Looking at my brother”.

Alberto Rossi (IT/SE) grundare till det konstnärsdrivna förlaget och hubben Take 10, som också är ett nomadiskt bibliotek.

Janne Riikonen (SE/FIN) konstnär, förläggare och formgivare som driver publikationsprojektet Kult Books.

Klara Källström (SE) konstnär, föreläsare och universitetslektor i fotografi vid HDK-Valand. Hennes praktik utforskar skildringen av historiska händelser genom fotografi och media. Tillsammans med Thobias Fäldt driver hon publiceringsplattformen B-B-B-bookssedan 2011.

Centrum för fotografi, Fotoförfattarna and the Goethe Institute welcome you to a one day festival where we hope to create new contact points for photographers and publishers, promote collaborations and increase knowledge about the photo book culture of Germany and Sweden.

Mini-photobook festival at Goethe-Institutet

Friday, May 23rd
time: 1 pm – 8 pm
 
1 pm: The photobook market opens. Come to discover books and mingle with indie publishers!

1:30 – 1:40: Simon Berg from Fotoförfattarna and Kristyna Müller from Centrum for fotografi welcomes everyone and introduces the program.

1:45-2:15 pm – Presentation: Alberto Rossi on Take Ten
Alberto introduces Take Ten Press, an artist-founded publishing house and nomadic library of 90 books. The library is displayed at Goethe all day.

2:25 – 3:10 pm Panel discussion: Does bubble mean trouble?
Panel discussion on the photobook and its international community. Photobooks are a big part of the photography scene. But even if their topics are relevant and the artistic quality is high, they don’t seem to reach outside of the scene. Why is that, and is there a desire to have it differently?
What strategies do we have for reaching outside of the bubble?

3:20-4:00 pm Presentation: The story about Buchkunst Berlin   
Thomas Gust and Ana Druga will tell their story about their work with the platform, gallery and agency Buchkunst Berlin. 

4:10 – 4:40 pm Interview: Meet photographer Julian Slagman 
Julian Slagman will talk about his view on photography and his personal project, “Looking at my brother” in a conversation with Simon Berg. The project has become a book (Disco Bay, 2024) as well as an exhibition. The book was nominated for the Swedish Photobook Prize 2025.
 
5:00 – 6:30 pm PECHA KUCHA
The Pecha Kucha is a classic presentation form, a perfect way of being introduced to each other’s photobased work in a short, fun and inspiring way. Twenty photographers/artists/publishers will be participating, sharing 20 of their images in 20 seconds each.

6:30 – 8:00 pm MINGLE / CIAO FOR NOW
Welcome to today’s most important part of the program: the mingle! Get yourself something to drink in our Goethe-bar and take the chance to talk to everyone who’s been participating in the program during the day. 

 
Participants:
 
Calin Cruse (DE): Founder of the German publishing house dienacht and its magazine. Calin is a co-director of the Leipzig Photobook Festival, a photographer, curator, and lecturer. He conducts photobook workshops and masterclasses globally and reviews portfolios for photography festivals worldwide.

Thomas Gust (DE): Photographer, curator and publisher. Founder of Buchkunst Berlin, a gallery, platform and agency that he’s been running with Ana Druga since 2021. Together, they aim to offer a platform for emerging expressions and talents in the field of photography.

Ana Druga (DE): Gallerist, art director, photographer and curator. Ana Druga has been managing Buchkunst Berlin alongside Thomas Gust since 2021. 

Julian Slagman (DE/SE): Photographer nominated for the Swedish Photobook Award 2025 for “Looking at my brother”. His latest exhibition, “A failed attempt to photograph reality”, took place at Bladh Bladh in Copenhagen April 2025. 

Alberto Rossi (IT/SE): Founder of Take 10 Press, an artistrun publishinghouse and a nomadic library based in Göteborg, Sweden. Alberto works with photography, digital images, analogue collages, notes, and printed matter. Take 10 Press focuses on circulating publications that mainstream bookselling bypasses, aiming to elevate the visibility of artist books.
 
Janne Riikonen (SE/FI): Photographer, journalist and book designer. Founder of the publication project Kult Books that he’s been running since 2017. Social issues, human rights and global phenomena are broad themes that attract Riikonen the most as a photographer.

Klara Källström (SE) Artist and senior lecturer in photography at HDK-Valand. Her practice explores the depiction of historical events through photography and media. Together with Thobias Fäldt, she runs the publishing platform B-B-B-books since 2011.
