Mari Yokoichi är en konstnär och fotograf vars arbete spänner över olika medier.
Mari integrerar ibland också sin konst och sitt fotografi och gör då platsspecifika installationer och objektstudier som visar upp hennes konstnärliga vision.

My photography begins with curiosity. I am drawn to ordinary places, quiet details and moments that might easily pass unnoticed. What interests me is how photography can transform something familiar into something unexpected. Through the camera, I explore how familiar surroundings can become strange, poetic or unexpectedly beautiful when we pause and look more closely.

I often photograph spaces that seem to exist between one purpose and another: waiting areas, passageways, empty corners and places shaped by people who are no longer present. In projects such as Waiting waiting, passing by, I use these environments to explore stillness, transition, absence and the feeling of time briefly slowing down.

My process is intuitive and observant. I work with light, colour, structure and framing, allowing the character of a place to guide the image. Rather than trying to explain everything, I leave room for uncertainty and for the viewer’s own memories and associations.

I want my photographs to encourage a slower way of seeing. I hope the viewer notices something they might otherwise have overlooked and experiences the familiar world as slightly more mysterious, open and alive.
