Nordic Neighbours – Conversations and Collaborations on Photography (NNCCP)
2023-2024 Centrum för fotografi together with Fotografisk center, Copenhagen, Danmark, Preus Museum, Horten, Norway and Hippolyte Association of Photographic Artists, Helsinki, Finland are a part of a network. During 2023 – 20204 the network organized four different public events and also held internal meetings.
The network is of great importance to support different roles in the photography scene and to inspire, and lead into new collaborations. During the past year the network has explored thematic´s that are underexplored and important withing the photography scene.
Below are the public activates the network has conducted during the past year.
22–23 November 2023, Fotografisk center, Copenhagen, Danmark

The network organized two programs, one internal, and one public panel discussion. Both the programs brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives and allowed for a rich exploration of how diversity strategies are implemented (or not implemented) within the field.

“Resources of the North – On climate change, humans and nature through four artistic practices”

In Stockholm, the network held a public presentation and an internal roundtable discussion on how climate change and exploitation are impacting the Nordic landscape. Four artists presented works related to climate issues, followed by a discussion led by Caroline Elgh. The next day, a meeting was held on artistic research and its development within different institutional contexts.

“Socially engaged practice – sharing experience”

In this webinar artist from four countries presented their practice and discussed their
experiences. Liz Wewiora from SEPN, which is the national network for socially engaged photography in the UK, presented their work as a starting point and inspiration. There was also a discussion on whether we should establish a network to share our experiences and stimulate more collaboration in the future within this field.

“The AI Conundrum in Photographic Art”

The AI Conundrum in Photographic Art seminar explored the reasons and ways that artificial intelligence is being used by artists today and was made in collaboration with Aalto university. There were several Nordic artist and researcher that did presentations on AI and how it works within the field of photography. The network also organized a internal meeting discussing similar questions with artists.
Centrum för fotografi has received network funding from the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture to establish ”Nordic Neighbours Conversations Collaborations on Photography”
