I’ll Remember You

My second book "I'll Remember You" was published by Kerber Verlag in September 2025. It is a story about the relationship between myself and my father, and the role of photography in that relationship.My father used to take a lot of photos when I grew up and I was often his subject. After his retirement, my father was diagnosed with vascular dementia and later also with Alzheimer's. At the age of 77, he had to be moved to a care home. At the beginning he took it quite hard, but as he sank deeper into dementia, the memory of his former existence faded away and so did the longing for it.During my visits, I was using my father's old camera to capture and preserve our moments together. While doing so, I think that he could sometimes recognise his former self in me. We were often flipping through his old albums to try and evoke the memories that still remained. Thus, our shared passion for photography became a way to connect both with each other and with the past.​For me personally, it also served as a tool that could help me to manage my own impressions and thoughts during this process. Through the camera, I was able to confront the experience of my father's condition as well as my fear of eventually losing my own memories.My father passed away one week after the book was released.
