Photography as container, method as revelation: Heat exchange is a conversation about photography and what it holds. Drawn together by a shared curiosity about the image’s role in contemporary life – memory, politics, labour and play – the works reach beyond what is visible, toward what a photograph carries.

The exhibition is a contemporary trail, a montage of 16 artistic voices encountering differents forms, methods, and perspectives of the photograph. Many of the artists do not work with photography as their medium, here it becomes a starting point.

What happens when we challenge the material and disciplines – sculpture, painting, installation, perfomance, sound –  in an exchange with an other? The other material embodies a strangeness, but also invites a relation, a commonality: there is a vibrating surface, an expressive environment held within the works.

Heat implies warmth, but also tension, between opposing poles, what sparks are formed from our very encounter with the world, and our being in the world? Maybe, Heat Exchange, as an exhibition, brings forth an intimacy and distance to recover what a photograph can speak or contain, it opens a space within a contemporary city – one of exteriors and distances –  to experience nearness and connections.
