(Centrum) is visiting Projektrum Hjärne with two exhibitions. First up is Jens Nordström, exhibiting from May 3 – 12. After that, Erich Hörtnagl will show his work from May 17 – 26. You can read about that exhibition here.

Jens Nordström – The First Tattoo

Jens Nordström has been a professional photographer based in Malmö since 2007. His interest in photography was awakened during his teens. With the help of an old SLR camera and a darkroom equipment from the 50s, the door to the magical world of photography was opened. His friends started playing music and forming bands, while Jens chose the camera as his instrument. Music and an interest in documentary storytelling are still very much present in Jens’ work.

The first tattoo I remember is the one my grandfather had on his forearm. When he was in the bathtub, I sat next to him and tried to scrub it off. In 2006, I got my first tattoo – a picture of Loranga, illustrated by Barbro Lindgren. At the same time, my interest in photographing and documenting tattoos was awakened. As with all art forms, there is a plethora of different styles, techniques, and purposes. I was primarily interested in two things: tattooed people in the punk scene and older people with many tattoos. They turn out to have more in common than one might think.

(Centrum) is a series of exhibitions shown at Galleri Format, Projektrum Hjärne, Kristianstad Art Gallery, and Tjörnedala Art Gallery during the period April 19 – June 9. Eight photographers participate – Linnéa Cramer, Erich Hörtnagl, Axel Lundgren, Alice Millet, Anna Nordquist Andersson, Jens Nordström, Johanna Schartau, and Henrik Wejfeldt. Their works revolve around issues of representation, norms, equality, identity, exclusion, place, belonging, history, and the future. The project is carried out by the Center for Photography with the support of Region Skåne.

On May 17, the exhibition with Erich Hörtnagl opens at Projektrum Hjärne, which is also part of the (Centrum) project.
