Swedish Photobook Award 2023
Svenska Fotobokspriset 2023
20230318 - 20230402
Centrum för fotografi exhibits all submitted books for this year’s Swedish Photobook Award. Nearly 90 photobooks were submitted for this year’s award. Most are published by smaller publishers or by the photographer themselves on their own publishing house, while others have been published by established publishers, both Swedish and foreign.
The five nominees for the Swedish Photobook Award 2023 are Sven Westerlund, Emma Nilsson, Salad Hilowle, Joey Judita Abrait, and Cato Lein. The winner will be announced at the Swedish Photobook Award Gala on March 15, at Indio Studios in Stockholm.
Over the 27 times that the Swedish Photobook Award has been presented, many photobooks, photographers, designers, and publishers have been recognized. In connection with the award ceremony, films are produced about all the nominated photo authors and their books. This provides an in-depth meeting with the author and an opportunity to further disseminate and strengthen the position of photographic literature.
The Swedish Photobook Award was established in 1996 by Fotoförfattarna (Photo Authors) within the Swedish Photographers’ Association to stimulate Swedish photobook publishing. Fotoförfattarna was formed in 1972 to give photographers producing photobooks greater opportunities to act strategically and collectively to strengthen the position of photographic literature. The organization benefits photographers both within and outside the association who are engaged in book publishing and create content for literature.
