Through Ikram Abdulkadir’s intimate and gentle portraits, you get to know a little brother. You get to be there when he is on the football field, with his relatives, or dreamily standing and looking away.
Through Ikram Abdulkadir’s intimate and gentle portraits, we get to know a little brother. We get to be there when he is on the football field, with his relatives, or dreamingly standing and looking away. In the earlier works, it is the sisters who have taken their place. This time it is he who gets to shine and be highlighted in his own exhibition. The images create a sense of intimacy and presence and invite you into the family in Malmö.
Ikram Abdulkadir (b.1995) exhibited at Fotografiska in Stockholm and at the Fotofestivalen in Arles in 2023. Her photographs often depict family members and friends with whom she can identify; black, Muslim women living in Sweden. In her practice, the images become a work of memory and an ongoing writing of history.
