In the work Ei saa peittää, Anna Julkunen, who was born in Sweden, has chosen to focus on the experience of growing up as a Finn in a Swedish society. With the help of her mother’s and grandmother’s stories, Anna Julkunen examines her own feelings about shame and the feeling of rootlessness. She also chooses to ask the question: what does your image of the Finn look like?

Anna Julkunen is a Swedish-Finnish artist who works with still images, video, text, and sound. She starts from personal experiences and works with documentation and archival material. Central concepts she works with are identity and the question of how one can approach one’s own psyche.
