The Network for National Responsibility for Photography in Sweden is working to bring about a government investigation into the state of photography in Sweden and how the photographic still image should be secured for future generations with clear strategies and national responsibility.

Photography permeates all parts of modern society but, unlike the printed word and the moving image, lacks a central home. Photographic collections are today found in a number of different institutions, archives, museums and local associations, but there is a lack of overall responsibility for photography as a document, story and artistic expression. The life’s work of important photographers risks being destroyed in the absence of clear strategies and national responsibility. The network has just over 75 members from various institutions such as museums, archives and art galleries, but also photographers and researchers. The Centre for Photography, together with the Swedish Photographers’ Association, is the driving organization in the network.
