Open Call: Konstboxen Wallstreet Varberg
Varberg Municipality, together with the Center for Photography, invites artists working with photography to an Open Call for a temporary installation during the Wallstreet art festival in Varberg. Two artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in separate “art boxes” located in Varberg’s urban space during the festival, which runs between June and August 2025.
The Wallstreet art festival is part of the 2025 art year in Varberg Municipality, where several initiatives in the field of art will have a central place in the city’s development. Through this, Varberg strengthens its vision of being the creative center of the West Coast and highlights how art and culture contribute to a vibrant, attractive, and sustainable urban environment.
Assignment and site conditions
To apply, you need to submit a proposal with at least 8 photographs for the exhibition surface and a short project description, along with a CV. In the project description, we would like you to describe your vision for the installation and an overall description of your project with a selection of images. The two projects selected may need to be adapted to the site conditions. This will take place in dialogue with the selected artists and project managers at Varberg Municipality. The boxes will be placed in selected locations along Östra Torggatan in central Varberg.
The art box measures 242 x 242 x 246 cm and consists of a metal outer frame, which opens up various design possibilities, both in terms of how selected projects are displayed, the choice of materials, and how the works are installed. The structure of the art box must not be affected. The choice of materials and installation method should be adapted based on the conditions for display in the public urban space.
The selected artists will receive an exhibition fee of SEK 30,000 excluding VAT for a 12-week exhibition, plus a material and production budget of SEK 25,000 excluding VAT, totaling SEK 55,000 excluding VAT per artist. During the process, we invite dialogue regarding the choice of materials and assembly solutions based on the conditions of the exhibition surface. Varberg Municipality is responsible for travel, transport, and assembly of the exhibition material.
As part of the assignment, each artist must deliver a short text describing the installation and a presentation of their artistry.
Selection
Selection is made by a jury group with representatives from the Center for Photography and the culture unit in Varberg Municipality. The assessment is based on how well the artist fulfills the art program.
Timetable
The deadline for submitting the application is March 5th at 24:00
The selected artists will be notified during week 11.
Production of exhibition material in dialogue with Wallstreet Varberg takes place during weeks 14 – 18
Installation takes place during weeks 21 and 22
Opening of Wallstreet Varberg is Saturday, May 31st
