Periferi is a project of the Center for Photography that started in 2021 in Västra Götaland. By publishing photozines by different photographers, we want to shine a light on the photography that is created around Sweden. The individual photographers’ fanzines are presented in a common collection box.

So far, Periphery has been carried out in Västra Götaland (2021), Skåne (2022) and Northern Sweden (2023). The Center for Photography wants to carry out Periphery throughout Sweden and create four boxes with the work of about 60 different photographers. The result will be fantastic documentation of photography in Sweden in our time. The photographers work on the layout of their zines themselves, guided by the design agency Lundgren+Lindqvist.

In the spring of 2023, the Periphery Project was carried out in northern Sweden. This time the participants were from Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten. The jury that selected the 14 participants consisted of Mia Bengtsson Plynning from CFF, Lina Aastrup/Västernorrland County Museum, Cecilia Andersson/MAN Museum Anna Norrlander and Lejla Porovic/Sundsvalls Museum.

During the autumn of 2022, the project was carried out in Skåne and the result is 14 new fanzines that are available in the webshop as individual publications but also as a collection box. The Skåne jury included: Annie Lindberg/Skissernas Museum, art critic Thomas Millroth, designer Lisa Olausson and Mia Bengtsson Plynning.

The first version was carried out in 2021 in Västra Götaland and the result is 19 fanzines that are available in the webshop as single publications but also as a collection box. In Västra Götaland, the jury consisted of Elsa Modin/Hasselbladsbiblioteket, Mette Muhli/Skövde Konsthall and designer Andreas Friberg Lundgren.

Periphery is a project by the Center for Photography that started in Västra Götaland in 2021. The idea of making regional photo fanzines came from CFF’s three project managers Emma Sandström, Lars Dyrendom and Lisa Brunzell.

The project was implemented in 2021 by the Centre for Photography with support from the Västra Götaland Region, Gothenburg Image Workshop, the City of Gothenburg and the Swedish Photographers’ Association. Periphery 2022 and 2023 were implemented by the Centre for Photography with support from the Swedish Arts Council. The partner in the 2023 project is Sune Jonsson Centre for Documentary Photography at Västerbotten Museum.
