These collages are formed through an intuitive collecting process, where found images from various visual and ideological worlds are brought together. Instead of illustrating a fixed concept, each collage functions as a negotiating space, where meaning is neither fixed nor lost but held suspended by the tension that the browsing itself creates.

The images are taken from various sources: illustrated books about the planet Earth, manuals on evolution, gardening books, industrial magazines, and postcards. They are chosen not only for their visual qualities but also for the stories they carry about knowledge, nature, and progress. By being placed close to each other in new ways, the imagery is transformed, allowing for new connections between elements that exist simultaneously but rarely meet.

Alberto Rossi is a multimedia artist based in Gothenburg. His artistic practice explores the intersections between biological and cultural spheres, often with the urban environment as both subject and framework. By working with digital images, analog collages, series, notes, and artist books, he examines how technological and material systems shape our way of perceiving and experiencing our surroundings.

English Version:

The Vicissitudes of Signs is a video composed of an ongoing series of dynamic collages meant to be leafed through. These collages are shaped by a process of intuitive collecting and juxtaposition, in which found images from different visual and ideological worlds are brought into shifting relation. Rather than illustrating a fixed concept, each collage functions as a site of negotiation, where meaning is neither fixed nor lost but suspended in the tension that the act of leafing through creates.

The images are drawn from diverse sources: illustrated books about the planet Earth, manuals on evolution, gardening books, industrial magazines, and postcards. Chosen not only for their visual qualities but also for the embedded narratives they carry about knowledge, nature, and progress, these materials are reframed and reconfigured through new proximities, allowing connections to emerge between elements that coexist but seldom meet on the same page
