Photobook Release x 2: Tommy Arvidson and Kicki Lundgren
Welcome to celebrate two new books at the Center for Photography. In the book Banka riktigt hårt (Knock Really Hard), Tommy Arvidson returns to images of life on Linnegatan in Uppsala in the early 1970s. In the book Memories from the Faraway Mountains, Kicki Lundgren collects images taken in Northern Kurdistan between 1991-2007. In their respective books, they return to important places in their lives.
At 6 PM, the authors will present their publications. The books will be available for purchase throughout the evening, and the group exhibition Salong CFF will be open for evening hours.
Tommy Arvidson – Banka riktigt hårt (Knock Really Hard)
This is the story of a house on Linnegatan in Uppsala and its inhabitants. It all takes place in the early 1970s. We were a few young people who shared an apartment with our landlord in the old, demolition-threatened house. Upstairs lived an elderly lady with many things and memories from an upper-class life. Here we studied, worked, and partied for three interesting years. The standard was not the best, but the rent was only 127 SEK per month.

Kicki Lundgren – Memories from the Faraway Mountains
The images are from six trips during the years 1991-2007 to various small villages in the Turkish parts of Kurdistan. My entry point to the whole thing was that during the 1980s I got to know an elderly Kurdish woman who told me about her upbringing in a small village in northern Kurdistan. I thought it resembled my grandmother’s upbringing in a small village in Västerbotten. They were also farmers and lived in meager circumstances. How could it be, how could it be so similar despite the long distance, all the cultural differences, language?
