Åsa Sjöström is a freelance photographer who works with both documentary and commercial photography, as well as film.

Åsa has worked as a professional photographer since 2003. She trained at the Nordic School of Photography, photojournalism, Biskops Arnö, and worked as a photographer at DN and Sydsvenskan between 2004-2013. Since the autumn of 2013, she has been a freelance photographer. Åsa Sjöström’s own projects often highlight the situation and rights of women and children around the world. Her work has been recognised both in Sweden and internationally, and she has received the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s working grant to continue working on her projects.

In addition to freelancing as a photographer/filmmaker, Åsa does exhibitions, gives lectures, workshops, teaches, participates in panel discussions, and serves as a jury member. She has published a photobook and handbooks, and participated in anthologies with other photographers. Her first documentary film, The Last Circus Princess, was broadcast on SVT Dox in 2020.
