Member viewing and lecture: Frida Orupabo and Ingrid Pollard
Welcome to a member evening at Bonniers Konsthall! We start with a curator’s tour of Frida Orupabo’s acclaimed exhibition On Lies, Secrets and Silence. This will be followed by a lecture with Ingrid Pollard, this year’s recipient of the Hasselblad Award 2024.
You are welcome to register for one or both activities. Bonniers Konsthall is open until 8 pm, so it will also be a great opportunity for us to meet over a glass in the café!
5 pm: Tour of Frida Orupabo’s exhibition On Lies, Secrets and Silence
Senior curator Yuvinka Medina gives a personal tour and talks about the work with Orupabo’s exhibition, which is based on our most private and intimate – the home. Through newly produced works in the form of collages, video and sculpture, staged as spatial installations, the exhibition focuses on the complex relationships within the sphere of the home, central to our everyday lives and in the creation of our identity.
With a major international impact, Frida Orupabo has in recent years been highlighted as one of the most important artists of our time. In her image-based practice, she works with digital and physical collages where she explores issues of identity, gender roles, family relationships and racism. Read more about the exhibition here.
6 pm: Guest lecture: Ingrid Pollard
The British artist Ingrid Pollard is the 2024 recipient of the Hasselblad Award and will give a lecture at Bonniers Konsthall during Frida Orupabo’s exhibition On Lies, Secrets and Silence.
“Over the past four decades, Ingrid Pollard has used photography to question deeply rooted social and cultural structures behind racism, identity, community and gender. Her work makes visible both subtle and obvious injustices through its focus on the British landscape, iconography and identity, while challenging photography and its history. – Motivation; The Hasselblad Foundation
Ingrid Pollard is a photographer, media artist and researcher. Her works are represented in the collections of the UK Arts Council and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
