Release, Samtal
Double book release at the Center for Photography’s new premises in Gothenburg: Hillevi Nagel and Jerker Andersson.
Welcome to an evening with two book releases: Hillevi Nagel’s SITT SATT SETT and Jerker Andersson’s ABC Diary.
SITT SATT SETT and ABC Diary are two different photographic investigations, where everyday details, structures, and stories are central. During the evening, you are warmly welcome to mingle, browse the books, talk to the photographers, and take the opportunity to see our new location in Gothenburg!
SITT SATT SETT
One rarely knows how it begins.
But one day I saw – and realized – that seating and chairs are often recurring motifs in my images. After that, I continued both unconsciously and consciously to collect more and more, and gradually this book emerged.
In the chairs, I see homogeneous groups or motley gangs, community, exclusion, class differences, bullies and bullied, overbearing people, abandoned and submissive people, couples who thrive together and couples who disagree. Those who seek new company and contexts, those who have had their legs swept out from under them, those who are always odd no matter how much they try to fit in. And then all the solitaires in both possible and impossible places. Proud, shy, confident, isolated, rejected, lame, crippled, sloppy, orderly, headstrong, unfashionable, style-conscious, beautiful, and a little scarred by life. Just like us humans.
About Hillevi Nagel
I try to see and listen. To capture the small signals that the world around me gives me. Small, insignificant messages or signs. Placed by chance or a conscious act. It’s all the same – there is a story in everything.
ABC Diary
What are we pointing the camera at, and what do our photographs tell us about?
ABC Diary consists of three photo books with subject areas that I have photographed over the years (1980-2025). Animals, buildings, and cars. Hence the English titles Animal Diary, Building Diary, and Car Diary. The places where the pictures are taken are presented in alphabetical order, a combination of geography and photography.
The purpose of the books is to inspire and support the participants I supervise in photography, especially the younger ones. With photography as a language, I want to arouse curiosity, strengthen storytelling, and create space for exploration and reflection.
Jerker Andersson, born in Falkenberg in 1966, works as a photographer in Gothenburg. He publishes photo books and holds exhibitions, is a photography tutor, runs workshops, and lectures about photography around the country.
