Conversation with Alice Hedström about the book Real Dolls at Frölunda Library
In connection with the touring exhibition “Published – The Photographic Book”, CFF has invited Alice Hedström to talk about her book “Real Dolls.”
Alice Hedström works multi-medially with several different techniques. The works are linked together by a common thread of voice and message, which often revolves around topics such as feminism, class, social heritage and contemporary phenomena.
The exhibition consists of twelve selected photographic books that have been published in the last three years by regional photographers in Västra Götaland. Several genres and formats are represented here, showing the breadth that exists within the photographic expression. The exhibition will tour during the autumn of 2022 and the spring of 2023 at regional libraries. The selection of books will change from library to library.
The books in the Frölunda exhibition are by:
Mari Lagerquist, Jerker Andersson, Agneta Ekman, Erik Gustafsson, Emanuel Cederqvist, Tina Umer, Klara Källström & Thobias Fäldt, Eva Terez Görlin, Anna Strand, Helga Härenstam, Erik Betshammar and Alice Hedström.
The photo book exhibition is an extension of the Photo Book Festival GBG which takes place in Gothenburg 17 – 20 November. The Center for Photography has selected photographic books published by regional photographers and artists. The selection shows the breadth of forms of expression that the photographic medium consists of, where the focus is on highlighting regional photography.
By allowing libraries to highlight photo books by local photographers and combining them with a base of regional photo books, the conversation about the photography created in the local environment can meet an interested public. Conversations with photographers at libraries can inspire and activate more local talents and form the basis for a deeper reading of photography among residents.
As photography is a direct and democratic art form that moves across language barriers, social groupings and age, it is a fine tool for allowing people to meet and talk about current topics.
The event is a collaboration between the Center for Photography and the Photo Authors within the Swedish Photographers’ Association.
The conversation takes place at Frölunda Library, 30 November 17.00-19.00.
The exhibition is open between 30 November – 20 December.
