Mirjam Lamut: These Four Walls
Mirjam Lamut
2026.11.06 - 2026.12.04
In These Four Walls, Mirjam Lamut revisits a family archive of color negatives from around the turn of the millennium. The photographs, taken during birthdays, celebrations, and other important family occasions, serve as the entry point for the work.
What attracts the artist’s attention is the background of the images, the spaces where life took place outside these documented moments. Like a scavenger, she looks for details that revive memories of the everyday life that was never photographed. She isolates and enlarges these details in the darkroom. The whole process feels like travelling back in time and photographing a place that no longer exists. What emerges in the present is a strange, fragmented image of a home long gone, familiar and uncanny at the same time.
Mirjam Lamut uses photography as a way of thinking through creating. Her interest lies in what is usually hidden or overlooked. In her artistic practice she investigates how inner experiences shape perception and how emotional and psychological states become entangled with external reality.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg, Sweden, as well as degrees in Social Pedagogy and Visual Communication Design from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions and curated group exhibitions in Sweden (Galleri Format , Röda Sten Konsthall), Slovenia (Museum of Contemporary Art, Media Nox Gallery), Italy (Festival Terra del Pane) and Portugal (DE LICEIRAS 18).
A digital artist talk will take place via Centrum för fotografi´s Instagram on Friday 6 November.
