Bookbinding Workshop

Are you curious to learn the fundamentals of bookbinding and explore various techniques for book creation? Bring a material you wish to transform into book form and learn from bookbinder, artist, and publisher Olle Essvik.

The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Swedish Photographers’ Association and is aimed at those interested in photobooks and artist books who wish to learn how to produce their own. For the workshop, please bring a material you wish to develop into book form. It is also possible to work with blank pages and bind them into a notebook or another type of publication.

Olle Essvik’s workshop is based on the book Göra, Gömma och Förstöra (Essvik&Nordqvist). The book, which is distributed to participants, is about how to make, destroy, and hide books. The workshop and the book together provide an excellent starter kit for independently producing books thereafter.

Olle Essvik is an artist and publisher. In addition to his artistic practice, he works as a lecturer at HDK-Valand at the University of Gothenburg. Together with translator and artist Joel Nordkvist, he runs the publishing house rojal. Essvik teaches book production and artist books and has conducted workshops both in Sweden and internationally.
