Daniel Larsson: GEN ALPHA

Daniel Larsson’s work is partly concerned with our contemporary moment, but above all with Generation Alpha, the largest generation in the world. Children born between 2010 and 2025 are the first generation to grow up entirely in a digital world.

Smartphones, social media, and AI are a natural part of their everyday lives. They have never experienced a life without the internet. At the same time, they are growing up in a time when climate change, pandemics, and global conflicts contribute to a greater search for security and clear structures.

Being a parent from the millennial generation means standing with one foot in the analogue and one in the digital, with the constant question of what kind of world we are leaving to our children. How are they affected by social media and influencers in a life where identity, achievement, belonging, and consumption are largely shaped by algorithms? What happens to our view of community, relationships, and presence when so much of life is mediated through a screen?

History shows that young generations often challenge the norms they grow up with. It is therefore possible that Generation Alpha will, in the future, reassess its relationship to technology, social media, and consumption. Perhaps physical presence, genuine relationships, and time away from screens will be what is experienced as most valuable.

Daniel Larsson is a photographer based in Årsta, Stockholm. In 2023, he graduated in photojournalism from Nordens Fotoskola, Biskops-Arnö, and has since worked as a freelancer. In addition to freelance assignments, he works as a hospital photographer and pursues his own projects, often focusing on everyday life and the world around him.
