Artist talk, Samtal
Artist talk with Inuuteq Storch
Welcome to an artist talk with the Greenlandic photographer and artist Inuuteq Storch.
Inuuteq Storch lives and works in Sisimiut, Greenland, and is known for his photographs of everyday life among young Greenlanders and for his way of combining his photographs with archival material. In 2024, Storch will be the first artist from Greenland to represent Denmark at the Venice Biennale – and at the same time the first photographer to have a solo exhibition in the Danish pavilion.
In this presentation, Storch will talk about photobooks, archives, and how he works to visualize Greenlandic identities and stories. The presentation will be led by Louise Wolthers, Head of Research and Curator at the Hasselblad Foundation. Wolthers will also be the curator for Inuuteq’s exhibition at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
After the talk, you are welcome to stay for a mingle with refreshments and snacks.
Free entry. The presentation will be held in English.
INUUTEQ STORCH (b. 1989) is educated at the International Center of Photography in New York and Fatamorgana School of Photography in Copenhagen. He has exhibited in Greenland, Denmark, USA, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Canada and Colombia. The photobook is his preferred medium and he has published the photobooks Porcelain Souls (2018, Konnotation), Flesh (2019, Disko Bay), John Møller – Mirrored, Portraits of Good Hope (2021, Roulette Russe) and Keepers of the Ocean (2022, Disko Bay).
The Danish Arts Council, which appointed Inuuteq Storch as the country’s representative to the Venice Biennale, believes that: Inuuteq Storch is a unique young artist whose sophisticated and multi-layered photographs explore complex connections between the past and present, between personal and national identity, and between his own and others’ images and opinions. His ability to bring historical material to life is both poetically poignant and conceptually strong.
The event is a collaboration between the Center for Photography, the Hasselblad Foundation, Göteborgs Bildverkstad, Fotoförfattarna within SFF – the Swedish Association of Professional Photographers and HDK-Valand.
